I'm struggling to access the portal, what do I do?
Try opening Tell a Story from an alternative browser (recommended options include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox). If you’re having trouble using the app try deleting and reinstalling it to make sure that you have the latest version available.
What can I use My Map for?
The geographical location delivers an invaluable trove of ideas and associations. It makes any story more relevant, more relatable. Whether you are writing someone’s biography, planning a road trip with friends, or telling a long-forgotten local legend, a Map will enliven your story and make it more visible to readers.
I’m ready to share my story, which category should I choose?
Your story can be categorised into one of the following:
- Stories (with subcategories)
- Tales
- Legends
- Fairy Tales
- Recipes
- Journey
Fictional stories told for entertainment purposes that can also contain lessons of moral value. Fairy tales usually involve enchantment and typically feature entities such as fairies, elves, giants, dragons, goblins or witches. Use the map if you wish to disclose where in the world these mythical creatures reside.
TalesThis category features location-based stories. These stories could, for instance, centre around a castle that is still standing or a certain town with a unique tale of its own. Use the “spin the globe” function to find a location of interest before publishing.
LegendsLegends can be very old stories passed down through time, inspirational in nature. Legends usually have a hero character at the centre of the story and they are often set in fantastical places.
RecipesThis category includes site-specific food, the origins of a recipe, regional eats, restaurant reviews etc. If you have a recipe you’d like to share, be sure to include a list of ingredients and instructions so that others can replicate your dish.
JourneyThe interactive map helps you document everything from the startpoint to the final destination and all of the places you visited in between. This feature enables others to read and experience your story in the place that it is set.
How do I upload a story?
To write a story, go into your profile page and click on the top right icon: 'Write Your Story'. Here you can select a category for your story, add a title and location, as well as edit the timeline. Insert your story and images, preview your story, and decide if you want to publish it publicly or privately.
How do I add pictures to my story?
When editing your story, you can upload a main picture to feature at the top of the page, or add images throughout the body of the text. The 'image button' at the top of the 'write storyline' section will prompt you to select an image from your desktop. You can select as many images as you want.
Who will see my stories?
That is completely up to you! When editing your story, you have the option to publish it on the “public” or the “private” map. If you publish it on the public map, your story will be available for all to see. If you prefer to keep your story private or share exclusively with your family/friends/audience, you must choose the private map. This feature is only available to subscribers.
How do I edit my profile?
Open your account, you may need to sign in. To edit your profile click on your username or avatar in the top right corner of the page. Select “about me” and then “profile”. You can now edit and review your profile such as:
- Changing your profile picture/avatar
- Editing the “about me” section
- Registering your personal and/or billing information
- Providing up to date contact information
- Downloading the app
- Adding your social sharing links or website
What should I include in the 'about me' section?
Whatever you want! This is an outlet for you to highlight who you are and what matters to you. Describe your strengths and, if you wish, additional social media sharing links in your bio. You can share your accomplishments, memorable quotes or even songs that resonate with you.
Do I need to pay?
It’s free to get started on Tell a Story. If you want to turn on paid subscriptions, Tell a Story will keep a 35% of revenues for operating costs. This allows us to maintain the platform, and ensure support is provided, there are no hidden fees.
How to pay?
If you’re using Google Pay for the first time or If Google Pay isn’t working the first time you try to use it:
- Make sure your device is up to date – check your settings for any updates you need to make.
- Check your card is listed in the Google Pay app – there might be some more steps you need to take to finish setting it up.
How do I change my password?
Open your account, you may need to sign in. Click on your username or avatar in the top right corner of the page. Select “login” under “login & subscriptions”. Here, you can enter your new password and confirm the new password.
How do I search for a story?
In the top right corner of the page you will find the search box. Here you can search for a story by title or specific keyword.
How do I search for another user?
In the top right corner of the page you will find the search box. Here you can search for a user by name and find their stories. Simply tap beside their name to add them as a new friend!

Do I own what I publish on TELLaSTORY
You will always own your content and your relationships with your subscribers. We make it easy to import and export your archive, email list, and payments information to and from other platforms. Writing is an incredible talent, and you should be rewarded for your work. Choose between selling your stories on the marketplace, share it with your subscribers only or publish for free.
What about the copyrights?

How do I publish a story?
It’s easy – just select ‘write a story’, pick a category and add pictures. Don’t forget to add a catchy story title and upload the cover image. You can set your privacy settings to public, friends or private. Edit your text, add bullet points, subtitles, etc. Put your story on the Map and enter the date.
How can people find my story?
Firstly, the Story Map shows stories with their exact geolocation. Secondly, Stories are grouped according to the content type into the following categories: Tales, Fairy Tales, Legends, Journeys, and Recipes. Another way of searching the stories across the platform is by using a timeline throughout the centuries. Additionally, a user also has the option to read the most recently published stories, the Most Loved ones and the Editor’s Choice.
Can I use Tell a Story for organising trips and events?
Organize a team-building event. Plan a trip. Host a bridal shower. Use Tell a Story as your personal ideation space. Create your own Map or participate on your friend’s Map.
For example: Insert all the sights and wineries you are planning to visit, and add stories about some famous people and cultural monuments of the area. You can also include your impressions and photos to wrap up the whole story.
How can I promote my content so it can be more visible?
Tell a Story offers plenty of content promotion opportunities. If you are a Pro Subscription user, your content will be automatically published on the Marketplace. You can also choose from our add-ons and advertise your content on the marketplace for 7 or 14 days.
